Getting Your Reads Back, Part 3 of 3
The Part Most People Miss
Marc Alan Besinaiz, Principal, Medical Imaging Practice
Everyone blames the radiologist shortage for slow reads.
That's only half the story.
A reading group can only read what your department sends. And what you send sets the pace, even for the best radiologists. I've seen it firsthand.
When a CT protocol doesn't match the clinical question, the radiologist stops to request more images. When the reformats are missing, the radiologist waits. When motion ruins a scan, the patient comes back, and the clock starts over.
Fixing turnaround takes both sides of the read: the right reading partner and a department built to get the most from them.
I've spent 25+ years at the scanner and inside the industry. I know what both sides look like when they work.
That wraps up our three-part series on read turnaround.
If you're saying "we can't get our reads back," let's talk.
